Does this mean the Mod will no longer be available and that BI will instead charge for the full release title?

It usually means the standalone title will have more features, and it won't require people to own Arma2, getting more curious gamers who didn't want to buy Arma2.

True, but as "ArmA II" has been sitting at #1 on the Steam top seller list for almost 2 months now I can't imagine anyone old enough not owning the game already, if only for this Mod. Probably the reasoning behind this in fact. Gamers who really don't want to ever play the base game and it's expansions won't need to.

Er, cause and effect. Arma2 has been #1 on Steam in the past 2 months BECAUSE of Day Z.

I thought that's what I said "...if only for this mod.".
*mutter*....I swear people don't read....

Whoops, sorry hero my bad,i`ll pay more attention next time. And you have a point what about us who bought arma 2? Do we have to buy the stand alone game? That would kinda suck really.

Who knows, maybe there will be a discount for registered Day Z owners. Anyway, think of it more as Day Z 1.5.

I personally still give The War Z an edge. It's been in development longer and started out as a game and not a mod.

My guess would be yes since you bought ArmA not Day Z.

This mod totally deserves a standalone release, this way the guy behind it gets proper income and the game gets good support from the studio.

Unless they nick his idea, pay him nothing, knock 'im on the 'ead and stash 'is bod round back 'o the loo.
Only one thing more dangerous than owing money is being owed - hard learned lesson of the Gangland Wars in Australia from 1975 to 1987, and again from 1999 - 2005.

There's always that option :)

I googled a bit to see what you meant with the last part, somehow I imagined Australia to be more peaceful than that, don't know why.

@Jonah
There's room for both games :).
Although you might be right, Day Z is still gonna use ArmA engine with all the issues that it brings. I still feel that War Z needs a new name though.

Well the only reason I haven't played this mod is because I'd have to buy a game I wouldn't really play just for a mod. Kinda shifts it down on my list of priorities you know?

Are we looking at another Counter strike or Left 4 dead here ?

Once mods become games of the year.
