Star Trek: Infinite Space cancelled

Gameforge has cancelled Star Trek: Infinite Space after the developer failed to find publisher support for the free-to-play title.

A lack of marketing partners also added to the decision.

"Since autumn 2011 we made many efforts to find a publishing and marketing partner for Star Trek: Infinite Space," the company said.

"Unfortunately, our efforts were not successful. So we have decided with a heavy heart to finally abandon the project Star Trek: Infinite Space. The discontinuation is very regrettable. Unfortunately it happens from time to time that a good concept for a game cannot be implemented as originally planned."

The first hint of trouble was evidenced last November 2011, after Infinite Space missed its Fall 2011 release date, and Gameforge axed 100 employees. Publisher Bigpoint seemed to be interested in acquiring the game, but it obviously fell through.

Strategy Informer penned a preview at E3 2011; check it out here.

I was so looking forward to this :(.

I guess STO also going f2p didn't help.

That was my impression too :(.
For some reason I don't like STO even if their f2p doesn't limit you in any significant way.

@HenoKutus
I would love that game to be good, but it seems like it's gonna be a cover based shooter and a console port so I'm a bit worried.

Infinite Space would have had all of the major personalities, like Picard and Sisko.

Keep in mind, I actually played an alpha version at E3 2011 (which is where my preview comes from.)

Now you're just making me envious :)

Since the game was supposed to be released by now it can't be that far off from being completed, perhaps they could at least kickstart it.

Kickstarting won't help with server costs, etc.

But it could allow them to finish the game and provide for a few months of server costs.
After that it's up to the games quality, if it's good it would provide for itself.

*sigh*. Well they'd better come up with something for the next "Star Trek" movie release, and not along the lines of the awful (but quietly addictive) "Star Trek D-A-C".

likely in the line of this the movies gets out the devs and publishers will see a sudden bloom of star trek fans and then they make a game...

Well at least there's a;ways "STO" (getting better and better all the time) and "Star Trek Legacy" with the "Ultimate Universe" Megamod. Where "Star Trek Elite" and it's ilk have gone I don't know. Like to see another go at the squad-based mechanic seen in "ST: Away Team" as well. "Armada 3" and "Fleet Command 4" feel free to drop in any time.
