Battlefield IP now a decade old, over 50 million gamers "served"

The Battlefield series may be on its way to those awkward teen years, but creator DICE is twice the IPs age at 20. General manager Karl Magnus Troedsson is celebrating at GDC Europe today.

Since it debuted the series has "served" over 50 million players, and the studio is "in love" as ever with their "core franchise." A 'Premium Edition' is rumoured to commemorate hitting 10.

Battlefield 3 has shipped 12 million copies since November 2011, with Battlefield 4 due by holiday 2013. The series has grown a lot and environment destruction is now 'the norm'.

I skipped a few of the games but I still consider myself a (casual) fan of the series.

Very casual for me. By the time I started playing "BF2", long after the bugged launch had paased the game was so full of cheaters and hackers I didn't want to play for long. Wake Island was the worst map ever for those shenanigans. So what do they do with "BF3"? Bring that sh&*$y map back again in the first EP. In fact now there are several maps that suck they are such cheater havens.
Bah humbug. Won't fall for "BF4" that's for sure.

PS. I couldn't get my "BF" ownership medal for my "BF3" profile, so contacted customer support. They gave me the medals for owning ALL "BF" games. Sweet:)
