Blizzcon ticket sales fiasco

The annual Blizzcon community event is quickly turning into one of the industry's major spectacles, with consumer demand significantly outstripping supply as Blizzard's sales portal went into meltdown yesterday.

Unlucky WoW fanatics were left cursing as the official website bounced in and out of service throughout the morning, quickly followed up by an announcement of a sell-out at 11.21am - prior to many fans managing to reach the site successfully.

Following vociferous complaints and a quickly-spiralling PR nightmare, Blizzard boss Mike Morhaime crafted an apology by way of the official website and offered up a further 3000 tickets to those with accounts pre-dating the initial sales period.

We'll bet they've already gone.

Blizzcon 2008 takes place on October 10-11 in the Anaheim Convention Center.

avatar C'mon Blizzard. You guys know that anything you do is going to cause a sensation and invasion of the masses. They should have been better prepared. Unless it was planned...hmmmm.
