Bioware: A smaller percentage of gamers finished Mass Effect 3 than Mass Effect 2

According to

BioWare online development director Fernando Melo, the metrics for Mass Effect 3 show that a smaller percentage of gamers finished Mass Effect 3 than Mass Effect 2, after five months of release.

Melo stated that only 42% of the players finished the third game, while over half, 56%, finished Mass Effect 2.

Even at that rate, both of the games enjoyed a higher completion rate than other BioWare titles. Only 40% of the players finished Mass Effect 1, while only 36% of them finished Dragon Age Origins. 41% finished Dragon Age 2.

Why the drop for Mass Effect 3? Was it the controversial ending that warded players from finishing?

Or was it the sheer length of Mass Effect 3? Melo notes that gamers played the same number of hours for both Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3.

Is this for real? Only 40%-50% of people finished these games?
It's quite difficult to believe, there can't be that many impulse buyers.

About ME3, there's no doubt that the useless ending had an influence, bad word spreads fast.

Well, would you want to play that ending?

That explains ME3 and DA2 but not DA1, ME1 and ME2.

If you were to interpret these numbers as the satisfaction rate that would be a pretty terrible result.

Bloody hell, I can't believe so few gamers ever finish games like this.

Actually, I can understand it quite well - many games do become repetitive and you get simply bored with it and you try a new game and get stuch with that. I have plenty of games I never finish because I simply don't find them good enough all the way. Sometimes I make a "too finish" list and just plays a few games in order to finish them - at least once.
Dragon Age just became so booring that I couldn't finish it. The RPG elements in the game weren't enticing enough. In Dragon Age 2 I broke my agreement on never playing easiest on combat in an RPG - but did because the combats were so really REALLY crappy and just forced everything through to get to the end - and it went pretty quickly as well...

the story was good enough to keep me enthralled to it but after it i didn't even bother looking at it anymore even with the new DLCs
as for DA2 i did have to force myself a bit but playing the same areas over and over again in DA2 was a killer...

Time for a new IP I do believe. I'm sick of Shepard and I've only finished "ME 1". Playing "DAO" at the moment and I might finish it in my lifetime, but with the EP I may need an Elixir of Youth DLC.

ME1 is the longest one of the three agreed and also agreed that its time for a change if they gonna make more ME games they should give the player some freedom of choice like chosing a race and full name players do love to see their own creations at work afterall XD

Well, it's clearly not going to be a sequel... perhaps a prequel with the First Contact War?

Killing turians instead of reapers, don't think so!
Maybe spinoff with other main character

I think we'll get another Shepard game.
I mean, it was obvious he got indoctrinated in most endings, but survived and kept his sanity in only one (red/destroy ending). So, I believe that the entire finale of ME3 was actually happening in commander's head.

The best of all this games (ME1 and DA1) have the lowest finish time rate.. hmn...

I think that is because those first two game offered so much more customization and character development that you can't help yourself (speaking from own experience) that as a rogue you get your ass handed to you by some revans and try it out with a warrior instead only to experience defeat once more. You go mage and suddenly you fly by - and so has time...
For me, the end is definitely not the reason why I play - it is undeniably the journey...

In ME1 I struggled to reach the finish line because the different classes didn't have that much impact on story and they were pretty well based in knowing what you got - so there was just a lot of game to cower, in ME 2 - the side stories was suddenly pretty uninteresting and felt like - I don't know - that we had seen the same ol same ol from KOTOR and nothing really new - only that the discussion were getting more and more bland.
Oh, and suddenly in all the action you had reached the final stage and oh - ok big-badda-boom The End....
In DA2 - the combat and discussions were so excuse me but bloody horrible. The worst ever from BioWare and the only so called side quest worth the experience were some of the tidbits of the murderer - and the main plot. The rest weren't all that and Dragon Age suffers greatly from a very limited range of enemies and flora and fauna.
Yes, I know I can kill zombies for hours in L4D and cheer everytime you have to get on your toes because a fatty or lurker comes by - but in DA2 - seriously? The fights had the same memo all the time - EVERYTIME - you knew exactly how and what to expect. First group in front of you - one mage perhaps and one or two archers - the rest are melee dudes. Phase 2 - guys tumble down from the walls (inside caves, rooms etc) and then in Phase 3 following quickly they always succeed in placing people to flank you.
The fighting itself was pretty tedious and ungratifying. Sollution - you didn't feel bad to set combat difficulty to my little pony standard and breeze through them and stop listening to your allies - and voila - the game ended quickly enough.

I see no problem with fewer people finishing ME1 and Da:o - it simply to me means they had so much more to offer...

yeah DA1 had a pretty nice campaign with many side quests it did took quite awhile
