Electronic Arts has announced their their upcoming real-time-strategy title, Command & Conquer: Generals 2, which is being developed by BioWare, will be going free-to-play and client-based. The Frostbite 2 enhanced game will be launching on 2013.

Gamers who want to engage in the closed beta can visit the official site here.

According to EA general manager John van Canegham, “We are thrilled about this opportunity to transform Command and Conquer into a premier online experience. For nearly two decades, this franchise has existed as something you buy; now we are creating a destination where our fans will be able to access the entire Command and Conquer universe, starting with Generals and continuing with Red Alert, Tiberium, and beyond. With Frostbite 2, we are able to keep an emphasis on the AAA quality our consumers expect while staying true to the RTS gameplay they know and love – all available online for free.”

In the AAA free-to-play game, players will be able take control of multiple factions, compete for resources, build up operation bases, and lead massive batteries of tanks, soldiers, and aircraft into battle. EA promises that the game will evolve using community feedback.

Well thanks to this fuck-up my interest in this game has gone down to zero,i have no use for another online-only strategy title, end of nations has that covered and i`m sure it will be better than this.

"We are thrilled about this opportunity to transform Command and Conquer into a premier online experience."

wow what a bs on that one and they have done it before note Command and Conquer Tiberium Alliances idiots...

its sad news really but i didn't expect anything less from EA its just in their nature to fail everything they produce but im sure at some point their greedyness will be their own downfall trust me it will.

After ME 2, ME 3, DA 2??? NO!
By lichlord (SI Core) on Aug 15, 2012
lichlord
ME2 wasn't so bad and lets admit ME3 wasn't either its just the ending that was poorly as for DA2 it would have made it into my favs if the areas weren't the same

but latly Bioware hasn't done much good anymore and you can look up sw:tor for that alone.

its free to play so i might try but if the free part only means like ur a cheap basterd and youl get loads of disadvantages then forget it for sure im not gonna pay to win montly or other kind of crap ill play C&C generals 1 instaed if i want a c&c generals game then

and also f*ck EA Bioware is like their puppet so yeah i don't expect great things

I don't care that it is EA in it's current form nor the track record of BioWare to date. I cannot wait for this title, crossing all limbs it is no 'Red Alert 3" nor "C&C 4" botched mess.

Hmmmm... I have to admit, after EA destroyed Command & Conquer by creating Tiberian Twilight I alreadt lost interest in the game. The first Generals was great and that was how C&C used to be, and so they have ruined another great title.

well its free no harm in trying tho don't get high hopes for it thats all ill say
By nocutius (SI Elite) on Aug 16, 2012

Exactly, it's f2p so we can at least try it at no cost. I will definitely play it cause I have a buddy that's really into c&c games but the game will have to prove itself even more than usually.

i also am a great fan of C&C tho after EA got their hands on westwood it went nothing but downroad after that...

however F2P or not origin is not gonna go on my pc so if its required then i will pass...
By nocutius (SI Elite) on Aug 16, 2012
nocutius
Yea there's that too, I almost forgot about it :(.
Let's hope that it won't be required as I'll have to figure out a way to run that on a separate system.

idd im kinda amazed EA is allowed to walk away with that origin spyware crap...
tho im sure they got something in their UELA to cover that crap...

While it's not the news we wanted, I think it's too early to completely through it out of the the window. I'm sure the developers knew that there would be a backlash against the decision, but it depends on what they've got planned. Hopefully we'll try and find out for you soon.

It is quite amazing, that almost everyone here has made up their minds about this game xD

If it is going to be Origin, f2p or not, there is no way that I am putting Origin on my PC.

the only question is...Why Generals 2? They could make another game for that shit...
By nocutius (SI Elite) on Aug 17, 2012

Because it's the only part of the C&C franchise that hasn't been run into the ground yet? :P

Maybe it'll be a full AAA game with no micro or DLC, just to create the goodwill that's been lost lately. I can dream, can't I? :P
By herodotus (SI Herodotus) on Aug 18, 2012

EA create goodwill? I so wish that might be true Uns. Geisha, stop being so negative. We were ALL EA supporters once, looking back over gaming history and I see no reason why we can't look forward to it being so again. They have stuffed up the "C&C" franchise by trying something different (ripping off Relic and "DoW II" - and failing) but who knows what "Generals 2" will bring.
I'll remain optimistic.

yeah the rip of the warhammer series trying to copy the baneblade tank was a realy shit move from EA and it also shows that they actually are rich enough to take that risk and pay the fines...

and who wouldn't like a nice Geisha girl? :P
