Diablo III's Wilson on former Diablo dev's mixed feelings on game: "F--k that loser"

David Brevik.
An interesting insight into the office politics of Blizzard has arisen with the reaction of Blizzard South members to former Blizzard North and Diablo II developer David Brevik in an interview with Inc Gamers.

In the interview, Brevik had some relatively mild criticisms of Diablo III, saying, "Honestly, I think that they did a lot of the things the best they could, it was a very different game than I would have created, the team and personalities, the people, the talent and all the design philosophies of the people that worked on it in Irvine, we called them Blizzard South, those people have their own style and the their own way they like to design. It was very, very different from the Blizzard North."

He went on to point out design designs he (and fans) didn't like, such as loot system ("Having all of your powers work off your main weapon and things like that, to having blues that are more powerful than yellows.")

He also noted, "When Blizzard North shut down they lost a ton of experience with why the Action RPG works and what about it works. Thatís really difficult to recover from. They didnít have the experience of people that knew it well."

This did not go over well with Blizzard South, with Diablo III technical artist Chris Haga posting on Facebook, "Suddenly I feel like I was just thrown under a bus."

This opened a floodgate of hostile tweets by other members of the team, highlighted by a tweet by game director Jay Wilson angrily dismissing, "F--k that loser."

Jay Wilson arrived from Relic Entertainment in 2007, seven years after the release of Diablo II. Brevik now works at Gazillion Entertainment.

Ha ha ha!
Well, the truth hurts I guess - so when building on the hardwork of a previous team that have guranteed sales even if it was guanoo they shipped I think he should have said - "thank you for letting me selling you online only poo" ;)

Wow, okay. Is it just me or are they very defensive about this? Sounds like there's a little more to it than just that.

This is so silly, grown people acting like teens on the internet :)

I don't really understand the reaction of their South department. Why so defensive?
I'm with Roderick on this one.

I have to agree. It is quite childish.

Well, according to internet bashing - we are all kiddies or raging teens - just take Apple vs Samsung and you see just how grown up "we" are...

Lots of silliness and I think that BS is a bit peeved over not being up in fandom-heaven with their-should-have-been-a-walk-in-the-park-loved-by-all-Diablo3-success

Word is that Blizzard has been banning anyone in the forums bringing up this Facebook post even remotely.
By FoolWolf (SI Elite) on Aug 21, 2012
LOL - yeah because banning people rather than coming open is such a great move to silence rumours ;)
By nocutius (SI Elite) on Aug 21, 2012
If that's true they really are little kiddies :).

some people never change :)

It actually just hit me that they are essentially displaying the same mentality as their own core audience, I don't know why I'm surprised ^^
