Bethesda VP of PR and marketing, Peter Hines, has responded to claims he recently said an interview that Prey 2 had become a canned project. He never said it was over, just "not coming out this year."
In his clarification message, Hines said the interview had been "translated to Dutch, translated back to English." Bethesda said earlier in April Prey 2 had "not progressed satisfactorily".
Human Head is behind Prey 2 and it was due for release this year but quality has become an issue of concern for Bethesda who decided it would be missing 2012.
"To clarify, I didn't say Prey 2 was canx. Gave an interview in English, translated to Dutch, translated back to English," said Peter Hines. "Simply reiterated what we've said previously, which is that it's not coming out this year." Prey 2 is a radical departure from the first game with an all-new protagonist taking the spotlight.
The original was a linear corridor shooter but Human Head are transforming the series into an open world affair with us tasked as a bounty hunting tracking down aliens. If that sounds familiar now it's likely because of LucasArts' announced which has player fill the boots of a fresh faced bounty hunter on Coruscant.
Prey 2 released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC at an undisclosed date.
