Microsoft has announced that on the 26th October, Windows 8 will be including new Xbox Live apps for PC which will include classic Arcade titles as well as popular mobile apps ported to Live. The games will run on desktops, laptops and tablets, presumably the upcoming Surface.

Cut the Rope, Windows 8 version.

The full list of Live games that will be hitting includes:

* 4 Elements II Special Edition
* A World of Keflings
* Angry Birds
* Angry Birds Space
* Big Buck Hunter Pro
* BlazBlue Calamity Trigger
* Collateral Damage
* Crash Course GO
* Cut the Rope
* Disney Fairies
* Dragon's Lair
* Field & Stream Fishing
* Fruit Ninja
* Gravity Guy
* Gunstringer: Dead Man Running
* IloMilo
* iStunt 2
* Jetpack Joyride
* Kinectimals Unleashed
* Monster Island
* PAC-MAN Championship DX Edition DX
* Pinball FX 2
* Reckless Racing Ultimate
* Rocket Riot 3D
* Shark Dash
* Shuffle Party
* Skulls of the Shogun
* Taptiles
* Team Crossword
* The Harvest HD
* Toy Soldiers Cold War
* Zombies!!!

Some of the games are based on Kinect titles such as Kinectimals Unleashed, but it seems that they'll probably use the touch screen of a tablet or a good, old-fashioned mouse swipe. (It's entirely possible that some will support Kinect on PC.)

In addition, they will all support Xbox Live Achievements, leaderboards and, more intriguingly, multiplayer, which means cross-platform play between tablets and PCs, but perhaps with the Xbox 360 as well.

This also makes one persistent rumor even stronger - that when the next generation Microsoft console is released, Xbox 360 games will be compatible with Windows 8 with an Xbox Live Gold account. Stay tuned.

I still use Windows XP, and after all these years, still have no interest in upgrading!

Well there's hardly any reason to, games are only just starting to stop supporting the OS (War of the Roses for instance) and you're perfectly capable of running a powerful system to run anything else.

After 3 years of Windows 7, I find XP very cumbersome. But I don't like what I'm seeing in 8, the PC is a very different platform from tablets, combining them can only hinder its growth. Yet I might give 8 a shot if it means I can play XBox exclusives. But I doubt we'll get more than Angry Birds...
