It's the end of an era, as both City of Heroes and its resident developer Paragon Studios are being shut down by NCSoft. The MMO first launched back in 2004, developed by Cryptic Studios. Paragon took over the reins from Cryptic in 2007.

According to NCSoft West director Lincoln Davis, "Both NCsoft and Paragon Studios are incredibly proud of the success of City of Heroes, but unfortunately, the continued support of the franchise no longer fits within our long term goals for the company. All employees at Paragon Studios are affected by this decision, including the management team."

Paragon Studios community manager Andy Belford announced in the official blog that the MMO would shut down on the 30th November. Both the cash shop and subscription billing options will cease immediately as well.

Belford also advised other developers of the 80 employees at Paragon, "To any potential studios looking to grow your team; hire these people. You won't regret it."

The Nature Affinity power set was released on the 21st August. Looks like that will be the final update for the game.
