Developer Tripwire is backing the community-made mod Rising Storm which has become a full joint effort between its creators and the studio. It's to be released as a full standalone expansion.

A new gameplay trailer has just been hurled into the laps of fans showing off its Pacific Theater credentials, which includes the battles of Tarawa, Kwajalein, Saipan and Iwo Jima. It's out in 2012.

Tripwire includes Red Orchestra 2's original multiplayer content as a bonus in Rising Storm. The expansion focuses on the savage conflict of the Pacific front.

Japanese forces will be using "booby traps, spawn bunkers and banzai charges. On the US side, we also see the flamethrower, a great weapon for clearing out bunkers." We'll be fighting in the urban ruins of "Charan Kano on Saipan, the baking hot island of Betio, the dense jungle around the hanto river in New Guinea, and the desolate rocky Iwo Jima."

It looks even better than the base game, seems to have a bit more variety in maps.

Definitely on my list, some nice variance added with this.
