Despite poor reviews and fan response, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford wants to make a new Duke Nukem game.

“I willingly and lovingly acquired the brand. When I did that, I wasn’t thinking that the only goal is just to make sure everyone could play Duke Nukem Forever,” Pitchford stated in an IGN interview, relating, “The real goal for me is I’d like to build a Duke Nukem game again.”

“I think what I would do and what Gearbox would do would be a little different" than Duke Nukem Forever, Pitchford promised. He added, "I think it would be amazing, and I look forward to that.”

Duke Nukem Forever was released last June 2011 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, receiving scathing reviews, though getting a less hostile 7.0/10 from Strategy Informer in its review.

Well, whatever is different from the last patching attempt would be a good start, look back to more of what made Duke fun and then keep a fast paced gun 'n run action and skip fewer weapon slots, skip the cover shooting, forget the sexist jokes, forget about a lot of things and make a fun game that is ultimately the best shooting experience due to the great and well thoguht out level designs and weapon mechanics!

Complex, non-linear level designs, big powerful guns and kicking ass. How hard is that? Seriously?

Aaaw, no sexist jokes would make Duke a sad panda, we'd need a ton of politically incorrect jokes to compensate :).

But I agree, gameplay comes first then the asshole character.

I enjoyed playing Duke Nukem: Forever, but I have to agree that it wasn't quite what I expected.

I am not going to give up on the title, and I am willing to give Gearbox another chance to prove themselves with a new DNK game.

None the less, Duke should still keep the attitude, but I agree with game play coming first.

The original Duke Nuken Forever had a female counterpart who put Duke in his place.

A Duke Nukem made from scratch with the full power of Gearbox guiding it and better guidance would leap to my most wanted.

By the looks of it, we all feel that there is still hope for this game.

Duke is a fun character and stands for a humour take on all that is born with the 80's action hero that is a thing of the past more or less. If Duke can be kept like that hero and that pastiche they should try and preserve him that way.
