4J Studios acknowledge that the Xbox 360 Minecraft community will never get to enjoy the breadth of 3rd party creativity that their PC counterpart does, but they can do something in the middle.
The dev team are "looking at the elements" of the most popular mods for Minecraft, and discussing if and how these community created features could integrate.
No such ideas will migrate with the release of update 1.8.2 but may do "further down the line." Xbox Live's environment creates a handicap for titles like Minecraft that enjoy a modding community.
"The Xbox 360 won’t be able to have the mod system that gives such a variety of community additions to the game on PC,” Paddy Burns of 4J Studios said, “but we’re looking at the elements of these that people seem to be enjoying the most, and deciding how we could tailor those elements into something for Xbox.”
"The audience for the game on the Xbox is different from the PC version. Mainly due to the console being in the living room and using controllers rather than a mouse and keyboard, so we need to ensure that whatever we do is right for that audience."
“We’re going to be discussing with Mojang where we go after version 1.2.3. Some ideas of taking the game in a different direction from PC having been raised already," he added. Hopefully among those 'popular mods' will be texture packs which have gathered a huge following as it visually overhauls the entire Minecraft world.
