Blizzard has "no particular fear" of Windows 8

Unlike Valve's Gabe Newell, Blizzard Entertainment senior software engineer Darren Williams states he has "no particular fear" of Microsoft's upcoming OS, Windows 8.

Williams confirmed that World of Warcraft would support Windows 8, stating, "We put our games on platforms our players are already on, so yeah, it will be available on Windows 8."

He added, "I think that we'll go with the platforms that the most people are on. There's no particular fear we have of Windows 8."

Recently, Newell declared that Windows 8 was "a catastrophe" for developers, though some have questioned his remarks, hinting his views were colored by the integrated Windows Marketplace that would be competing with Valve's cash cow Steam.

From what I heard about Windows 8, I am actually quite worried how it will support the PC gaming world.

Though Windows 8 looks exciting, we will just have to wait and see what Microsoft has in stored for us.

It'll support it fine. Two words: Direct X.

Windows 8 is nothing to fear unless you absolutely hate Metro, specially now that they made it impossible for it to be completely disabled. You still have your desktop, explorer and control panel, so the way you use the system is mostly the same.

I tried XP again two years ago, and after that I was done with it. Too unstable for me, incredibly fast, but damn unstable... plus I love directX 11. I know that XP has got it, but the last time I had difficulty getting it up and running.

Well, I can see how those with their own services will see the Win8 as a problem with certification for Win8 etc. You are streamlining the distribution for your own benefit and will cut into some of the margins and freedom of developers and independent distributors.
