It was announced yesterday that Microsoft would do real currency transactions on Windows 8 Marketplace - while still accepting Microsoft Points - which led some people to believe that Microsoft Points were on the way out. Microsoft has refuted that idea, saying Xbox Live Marketplace would still use MSP.

A Microsoft spokesperson related, "Current Xbox Live customers may also make a purchase using points. Microsoft Points continue to be the currency for purchasing content for the Xbox 360 console.”

This isn't the first rumor stating Microsoft Points were on the way out.
