MechWarrior Online goes into open beta next week

Piranha Games has announced that MechWarrior Online will go into open beta next week on the 16th October, so mech fans can see what the fuss is about. The "Founder's Program" will officially end on the 14th October, while Founder's members can choose tiers of membership and get a head start here.


For the uninitiated, MechWarrior Online takes place in the year 3049 during a massive interstellar war, where the mighty BattleMechs reign supreme. Players will be commanding and customizing their own Mech, including installing systems, replacing weapons, and tweaking armor.

MechWarrior Online has no release date, but will be a free-to-play title for PC.

There's been some talk that they are thinking about it, I sure hope that the they'll make the player-friendly choice otherwise this is going to generate some ill will towards them from a part of their community.
It's not a big issue but it would demonstrate that they're listening to feedback.

It's been pushed back, yay :)

A quote from the email:
"We have decided to push Open Beta back. We agree that the game's current state of stability is not allowing us to get the latest experience across to new and veteran players alike. This is a short push back on the date and will depend on the stability and playability of the build."

We also get to choose when to start our premium:
"... Around Open Beta, a button will appear that will allow YOU the Founder’s account holder to decide when the timer starts to tick down..."

A big plus to the team, they actually seem to listen to the players a bit :).

I understand that feeling very well :)

But it's probably better this way, it would have driven people away in it's current state otherwise.

They've just started building the matchmaker for example, it's no fun playing in a random group vs a pre-made one, you just get squished. There's also been some newly introduced stability and lag issues in the latest patch so that would leave a bad aftertaste to newcomers as well.

I'm the most thankful for the ability to chose when to activate my premium, I think I'd rather wait until more content is added.
