Human bias in Guild Wars 2 'saddens' ArenaNet writer, 'missing strong stories'

Peter Fries of developer ArenaNet is disappointed by the stat breakdown of the racial population in Guild Wars 2. Frankly, there are too many dirty stinking humans and not enough Charr or Asura.

He's 'sadden' because people are "missing the strongest story stuff" the MMO has to offer. It's not uncommon for humans to be in higher numbers within MMOs.

By way of an info graphic the human population is double that of the second highest race; the Norn. Then it's Asura, Sylvari and Charr. "GW2 race popularity makes me sad," tweeted Fries.

“People avoiding charr & asura are missing the strongest story stuff in our game, IMO.” Statistically the human race in any MMO setting is usually the highest when players are given a choice of other species. Some go as far as trying to recreate themselves, if customisation options are extensive enough.

ArenaNet posted the info graphic last month.

I try to play everything in the games I like - but the more "out" there some of these races are the less interesting I find it. Take Skyrim - the cat people and the lizards - don't play them.

Yea, those two are a bit hard to identify with.

I think that`s the problem, you need a species you or your character can identify with and some of the other races out there are on the extremes while the human race can have characters of any kind, which is why i generally pick human when creating my character,it allows me to mold him however i want without it being against the instincts or lore of the specific race.

If there's a wolf race I'll get that, but that almost never happens. In Elder Scrolls I'm always an Argonian.

Otherwise it's humie meatbag all the way ^^

Far too few wolfraces around - I agree completely SirRoderick!
Cats and lizards? Bah ;)

I think that is what make the D&D franchise of old so strong - the human, elf, dwarf, halfling do't differ so much from humas - only boost some qualities of the human variations...

Overall I love playing human, because they are versatile. In the past, I preferred playing races like Elves, or anything that looked bad ass otherwise. Today, I tend to stick to Humans in almost all of my games, but once in a while I play other races too.
