MechWarrior Online nets over $5M in preorders

MechWarrior Online may be a free-to-play mech sim MMO, but the game has already netted publisher Infinite Game and developer Piranha Games $5M in preorder sales, which began in July.

The preorders inducted purchasers into the Founder's Program, which allowed instant access to the closed beta, and will give those players elevated status in-game.

Mechwarrior Online will be heading into open beta next week, which is basically a soft launch for a free-to-play title.

It should be more than a week.

It's sucks if you're not in the beta and are really looking forward to finally getting to play the damn thing but there is no doubt that it's better this way. More polish, more stability, more content, more waiting :) but most importantly more fun.

Then it's a change, because they initially said "in a week".

Yea well, they said in a week a week ago as well :)

They must have changed their minds, seeing that they made this much money they must feel comfortable enough for a slightly longer delay and at the same time that also puts more pressure on them to not have a crappy launch.

I'd rather they take their time then throw the baby out of the stork's bag two houses short of the right crib, as many Publishers ten to do these days.
