EA posts $381M quarterly loss

Electronic Arts revealed in an investor call that the publisher posted a $381M loss for the fiscal quarter ending the 30th September. The loss is larger than the $340M lost for the same period last year.

According to CEO John Riccitiello, "The game sector is in a volatile period of change and transition--awaiting new catalysts for even more rapid growth. Since the San Francisco Giants won the World Series, I’ll use a baseball analogy: EA doesn’t win every inning, but we put a lot of runs on the scoreboard and we expect to finish the season at the top of the standings and to continue to do so for years to come."

EA had discussed in the same call the lower than expected sales of Medal of Honor: Warfighter and criticized the low review scores that the game had been getting. They plan to ride the Warfighter horst through the holidays with the tie-in DLC to Sony's Zero Dark Thirty film.

Industry analyst Michael Pachter, however, thinks Warfighter is a detriment to EA's competition with Activision.

Well, it has got to do with the garbage that they are selling. People don't tend to like EA very much.

That should be a good lesson for them, they need to change their approach to customer and their developers, cuz another 2-3 years could be last, the day of EA defeat would be my personal holiday :)

I dont like EA, the only games I will buy from them are the Mass Effect games and FIFA and even those I bought reluctantly.

EA seems to have a big "fan club", just the way they deserve it :).

Too bad that this also hurts the good people that honestly do their best over there.

Irony isn't it? In 90-es and 2000-es EA logo, those square, triangle and the circle were something, that meant quality...

i think the best thing they're developing FIFA and maybe NFS
they should increase Strategic games like (CnC and Lord of The Rings )

So much for trying to beat Activision at it's own game, trying to turn "BF3" into a "CoD"-style franchise inlcuding a premium (or "Elite") service. "MoH" did far better than was expected so it's no eal wonder "Warfighter" hasn't exactly lit up the gaming world.
"C&C Generals 2" being released as a browser-based game isn't going to help matters for 2013.
