DICE has announced on Twitter that to celebrate the two millionth Battlefield Premium member, Battlefield 1942 will be free on Origin.

The tweet announced, "To celebrate our 10th anniversary and two millionth Premium member, we are giving away BF1942 for free! http://origin.com/demos #BF1942"

The original Battlefield 1942 was released in 2002 and became one of the most influential shooters ever released, introducing large scale mission-based online multiplayer combat with vehicles on PC. It enjoyed two expansions and started the Battlefield line, while inspiring many famous mods, including Star Wars: Battlefront.

Too bad it's Origin only.

Why's that bad, geisha babe? You don't need to run Origin in the background to play any of EA's titles - only if you want to, unlike Steam. I don't mind it, as it uses very few resources (even less than X-Fire) and is non-intrusive with continual pop-ups with distracting achievements (Hello Steam).

I'd just prefer it on steam, nothing else.

I can't be called that anymore, sob sob :(.

Perhaps a change of avatar then, you saucy minx:)

I quite like Origin, as it is not web-based which leaves Steam open to multiple viruses including "Google Re-Direct" and "Pop-Up Adware", which many complain they now have on their Steam launcher. Also, EA Support, generally speaking, offers far greater customer service/support than Steam (which is basically none). Can't beat the Steam Sale Prices though on many titles (that aren't available on GetGames.com or GreenManGaming.com).

That one doesn't sound so bad either :).
It also describes the avatar well enough so there's no need to change it :P.

I guess I was lucky enough with Steam so far, never had any of those problems. The only thing that irritates me is the lack of tabs so you can only open one game page at a time.

I'll probably cave in to Origin as well eventually but so far I don't miss any of the games that have been pulled from Steam.

Downloaded it, booted it, entered Multiplayer, got "invalid serial key", Proceeded to throw nearest breakable object. Well, that's been my day so far.

Contact EA support (LIVE support) kadersalad. You'll be surprised at the amount and lengths they'll go to to help you out.
