Company of Heroes 2 'caps and badges' for Team Fortress 2

If you pre-order Company of Heroes 2 through Steam then you'll get two unlocks for Team Fortress 2. There's a German and Soviet cap and badge to wear on the free-to-play multiplayer shooter.

This is the 'Reward 1' tier for those slapping down their cash right now for the RTS sequel. 'Reward 2' will net everyone pre-purchasing a copy of Dawn of War 2: Retribution. There's a lot of '2' going on.

If things go even better then 'Reward 3' will unlock the 'Commissar Chest' which includes in-game currency for future DLC purchases and other goodies.

The pre0purchase rewards scheme has been running for a little while now for various new titles through Steam and it's obviously having some affect for Valve and the game developers to be still using it. The base offer for pre-purchase is two tank vehicle patterns; the German Rotbraun and Russian Leningrad. You also get "guaranteed beta access".

For more info on the pre-purchase bonuses check out the Steam store. Company of Heroes 2 releases in 2013.

Well, I certainly won't be ordering through Steam, being an ardent 'hater' of this "TF2" Hat rubbish. Besides that, the Steam price for Aussies is actually more expensive than buying it as a retail release in a store, complete with box cover, physical manual and disk and whatever other promo's EB Games (the official GameStop distributor here) come up with.

Reward 3 is all I'd be interested in, and only for another $8 I can get the retail release (cheaper if I look through other online stores on EBay). Think I'll spend the money on an Australian store rather than throw more over-priced cash at Valve.
Really, $80 for a digital download with nothing of significance to show for it? No thanks.
