Yes, we salute you Call of Duty!

This was one hell of a game, even a few of my non-gamer friends played it after seeing me enjoy it and they remember it fondly.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Marco, in war torn Europe, and eventually the Pacific. I thought nothing could beat "MoH:Allied Assault" at the time of it's release (having played the previous titles on PS1) until I played "CoD" and it's fiendishly hard EP "United Offensive" ("CoD" on steroids).
Lost count of the number of times I played the SP campaign in the original, but didn't have a solid internet connection until "CoD 2" so was unable to venture into MP territory until that latter title was released. Many, many hours fought scrimming in an Aussie Clan in that one. The Mods were fantastic too, having soldiers vomiting, defaecating, and their heads exploding upon bullet impact.
By "CoD 4" (missed "CoD 3", having no XBox) IW had really ramped up the SP and MP to an impressive and never equaled experience. "MW 2" was the beginning of the end for me, as cash-in was more important than quality.

Might have to play through "CoD" again, and re-watch "Band of Brothers" to get further into the mood after reading through this:)

No worries guys - I really enjoyed writing this and looking back. I had far too much fun playing it.

Know exactly what you mean, Marco. I was teaching my son how to play FPS's with this, but when it got too hard for him and he walked away I couldn't help but keep on playing.
He's 20 at week's end and now pwns me to the max:)

Was looking at the box for it earlier today and waxing nostalgia for the days when a major FPS series could be PC-only. I felt COD was far more polished and inventive than MOH:AA personally, although both were great. Slight correction though: Allied Assault didn't open with Omaha Beach. The console version Frontline did. The PC version builds to Omaha and was terrifying - the console version was a training mission.

True, the console version had those missions (or variations of) in the original and the follow-up "Underground", preceeding both "AA" and "Frontline".
