Star Citizen surpasses $5.8 million with 3 hours to go, concept art now 3D

Amazing, truly. With just 3 hours ticking away on the Kickstarter campaign clock, Star Citizen is just beneath $2 million in pledges. However, when combined with other funds, it has achieved $5.8 million.

That's more than enough to have unlocked the Bengal carrier stretch goal, and to get motion capture for Squadron 42. At $6 million we'll get 100 star systems at launch, full orchestral score and more.

It has been a real astronomical journey for Chris Roberts and his studio's crowd sourcing campaign for Star Citizen, which is exclusive to PC and powered by CryEngine 3.

They've teased us with a gorgeous looking tech demo below as they import one of the early concept artworks into a 3D game environment. It's not too late to pledge your backing for Star Citizen, or to harass your neighbours and loved ones into doing so. Surely the community can reach that lofty combined goal of $6 million?

Brilliant, this is guaranteed to surpass 6million, already at 5.9.

I only went for the the basic 35$ deal but every bit counts :)

Just passed 6 million :)

Publishers should start getting worried soon.

I went in for the 300i ship addon as well. A moment of weakness I won't regret for a second :P

You build quite a nice villa in Mexico for 6 million. Nah, just kidding, looks good. ;)

I went cheap since I can always upgrade later if I change my mind.
300i is tempting but it's a bit difficult to justify 30$ for just one ship that you can (probably) later acquire trough in-game means, even if it's gonna last you much longer due to the fusion engine.

I knoooooooow, but I'd feel awful for not nabbing it somehow. I'm such a consumerist whore it isn't even funny :P

You do get lifetime insurance policies on your pledge ships though apparently. So I'll always have a decent fallback ^^

Oh that's a actually a very nice bonus, the 300i is a decent ship even later on while the aurora becomes useless.

I don't like investing in something that may never see the light of day (Devil's Advocate here). Then again, I'm a tight arse:)
$55+ for the 300i - that's a bit steep.

Well if you pledged, you get plenty of time to upgrade at the campaign-prices. So no hurry to decide ^^

Most I could afford to pledge at present is the bare minimum of $5 and all that gets you is the ship hull enhancement - big deal. I'll wait and see.

I hope we get the alpha access within that grace year so I can more easily decide if I want to upgrade the ship or not.

They're aiming for a November 2014 release, so that might not really happen. At any rate, just keep an eye on the flow of info and videos and you'll make up your mind just fine I think.
