Diablo III is Australia's #1 seller from January thru September 2012

The recent NPD Group Australia figures on videogame sales have shown that Diablo III is Australia's best-selling title of 2012 to date, surprising overtaking such mega-blockbusters as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, and Mass Effect 3.

Surprising since the NPD tracks physical retail sales, and Diablo III has been more of a digital seller than a retail item.

New Zealand's top games of 2012 were more in-step with the rest of the world, with Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as the top 3 sellers.

It must be noted that sales for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Halo 4 have not figured into the sales numbers yet.

Kinda makes sense when you consider all those poisonous spawns of hell that live in Australia, I too would make it my mission to get rid of them if I lived there :).

Diablo 3 is just a hack and slash game with rather outdated conversations and is not that difficult, the storylines of Mass Effect 3 or Assassins Creed 3 are more interesting and fun to play, and now there is Baldurs Gate HD if they want something really interesting and challenging to play

Already played "BG" many times over, as well as the "Ultima" series from the very first title. I'm not surprised by this at "Diablo II" was a major LAN and Co-op favourite here for many years. Still this coming from GAmespot, I do query the veracity of the NPD.

If you think Aussie gamers are simple or easy to please, just hop on an Aussie server in "Battlefield 3" and I can assure you you'll have your arse handed to you in your bullet-ridden helmet - they're viscous. I don't even play on Aussie servers:)
