Activision: $1 billion grossed in 15 days for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 surpassed $1 billion in retail sales in just 15 days, announces Activision, after they checked Chart-Track sell-through data and internal company figures.

Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 3 achieved $1bn in 16 days, with the publishing giant pointing out that a film box office record was broken in 2009 by Avatar with $1bn in 17 days.

"The release of Call of Duty has been one of the most significant entertainment events of each of the last six years," said Activision's Bobby Kotick, lounging in a cash jacuzzi.

"Since Call of Duty was launched, cumulative franchise revenues from players around the world are greater than current worldwide box office receipts to date for the top-10 grossing films of 2012 combined," he continued.

"Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for 'Harry Potter' and 'Star Wars,' the two most successful movie franchises of all time." More than 150 million hours have been racked up by gamers playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 online since launch on Xbox Live and PSN since November 12th.

"Entertainment franchises that captivate audiences for as long as Call of Duty has, on the scale that Call of Duty has, are very rare things. And it takes a lot of brilliant people working across many different disciplines to make it happen. It is incredibly humbling and gratifying to be a part of," chipped in Activision Publishing CEO, Eric Hirshberg.

"In order for Call of Duty to remain the entertainment juggernaut that it is, and keep our fans coming back for more, we need to continue to bring fresh ideas and new innovations to the table every time, while always staying true to what people fell in love with in the first place."

"That's what we did with Call of Duty: Black Ops II, and that's what we intend to keep on doing. This is an incredible milestone for an incredible franchise, and I want to thank every passionate, talented, committed person on our team who made it happen," concluded Hirshberg.

Can the Call of Duty franchise keep on rockin' $1 billion every year? Bobby Kotick sure wants to find out, and he'll bet his 7th luxury yacht 'SubsFTW' the Activision vault will see a lot more green bleed from our wallets in 2013.

...says it all basically (except for the dying at 40...I'd be gone already by a long shot). But then this says it even better about modern shooters altogether:

Nah, not really interested in this game. It must be good since so many people have bought this, but I am still not interested... haven't even played Modern Warfare 3 yet.

Its good but they should remove the auto-aim and the sticky reticule than it would be much better and the MP should be fun again, but if you want the best Far Cry 3 is more challenging, has an awesome coop and no auto-aim just like it should be!

Black Ops 2 came out too fast. It had so much potential, but Treyarch fucked up. The guns are not realistic and the unlocking system is crap. Zombies is pitiful. I bought it, and I regret my decision. Should have done Halo 4 and not Black Ops 2. Oh well.... Lesson learned.

I agree, Kres. It's becoming much to redundant.

I was mainly just a fan of CoD zombie mods anyway. CoD can kiss my Battlefield ass.

Just think about it. By the time it happens for one game, there will be at least one new game for which it is already happening. It will be an unending cycle that just circles around, giving us all unwanted headaches. I've already got mine.

Now that is something we can agree on. Bethesda is one of the few companies doing it right. They hadn't made a good game for a while and then they come out with Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and it becomes the #1 game of the year, last year, according to Game Informer.

Not just number 1, it is also the first game to beat companies like EA and Activision with their First Person titles. First RPG game to get number one on the list.

Skyrim really surprised me in how well it sold, I wasn't expecting an RPG to do that well anymore.

It was quite refreshing to know that there is still someone out there who can make good RPGs. But, it was just one title. The whole RPG category is still under par.

how you think us space sims fans feel? -.- X3 is the best on the market and i wanted to play EVE online but its subscription so forget that one...

otherwise i can't find any games alike i mean X3 is very complex a lot of micromanagement in it but it lacks somewhat in grandscale combat despite having the ability of controlling capital ships...(and you better most fighter just get instantly killed by large AOE missiles)...

or god games... black & white,Dungeon keeper and so on... so many genres are under par my friend...

I didn't say it was the only one under par, just that it was. In my opinion, all of the games made in this new era of gaming have been under par, save a few. That's why I stick to old and great games, such as Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Super Mario 64, and StarCraft... I could go on and on but I think I got my point across.
