Saints Row: The Third passes 5.5M sales

THQ president Jason Rubin has announced that Saints Row: The Third has sold 5.5M units to date.

In a tweet, Rubin stated, "5.5 million people (pre Humble Bundle) can't be wrong. Saints Row was the hit nobody realized was a hit!"

It'd be interesting to see what the figures are post-Humble Bundle, which included the open world game in its package.

They have plenty, they just need to make it trough the next few months which I'm sure they'll manage :).

I didn't expect this game to sell that well either considering that the previous game was not considered to be that good, specially the PC version.

They have a couple of great IPs. THQ just needs to understand that they've lost the social media/mobile market. Also, needs to lose all the crappy shows/movies licenses.

They had an amazing racing IP, canned because of poor marketing and sales (not too many people that kenw about the Juiced series), they have Saints Row, Company of Heroes, Red Faction, Warhammer 40k, Homeworld (they've got this when Vivendi sold most of Sierra's assets while merging with Activision),Darksiders and Summoner.

So they should focus on the series that they know that can work and lsoe whatever it's dead weight.

As for Saints Row: The Third, can Mr. Rubin recall its own statements?! The ones in which he was describing how embarassed was of the game?!
Can he reacall how he trashed Saints Row: The Third in the interview that he gave to the editor from Verge?!
I was never into Saints Row series, but the third one was hilarious. It's a crude parody, pure adrenaline game. More than that it's tremendously fun to play. It offers a forgotten element of the gaming: games are supposed to be fun. Not frustrating, but fun. Challenging, but still fun enough. Saints Row was a sleeper hit, slowly making its way to the top. Just like his new rival (Sleeping Dogs). So, now Jason Rubin finally sees that Saints Row: The Third sold more than the previous entries in the series. Moreover, it sold more than the first two Saints Row put together. The team that worked on the third game hit the right combination for the game to be successful. As for Saints Row to be brought to a larger audience, i think the third game just did it. Over 5.5 million sales (without the humble bundle), says a lot about Saints Row: The Third.

Damn, but this is not necessarily the end.
It doesn't mean they're shutting down, they'll just have to sell a few things to gain some cash to stay afloat.
