The site just got blocked by Google. We're pretty much locked out at the moment from traffic. It found suspicious files on a scan. We're trying to figure out what happened.

Oh good, I thought it was just me.
By Kres (SI Elite) on Dec 25, 2012

There were some 4 bad files that might have contained viruses/trojans. Trainer files for Mafia and Need for Speed. Old ones. Anyway, that was the reason why we got blocked. The files were removed and we've requests a re-review.

That was quick. Good job Kres. Oh, almost forgot, Merry Christmas bro :)

There was an extra code inserted into our ad manager. Which means there is potential for danger. It was running for a few hours today. Somebody hacked our ad manager. Did anybody get any reports from anti virus software when loading the site? Other then Google/Browser warning.

The code was removed.

I'm still having issues with the site in Firefox.

Me too. That's why I'm accessing it through Chrome.
Edit : Firefox still registers Strategy Informer as attacked site.

Firefox here, all is clear on my end. Did a scan to be sure, nothing detected.

Ok thanks Roderick, glad to hear that. It is unknown what that code was doing. I've just got this message:

"
Status of the latest badware review for this site: A review for this site has finished. The site was found clean. The badware warnings from web search are being removed. Please note that it can take some time for this change to propagate
"

So the warning is gone.

Finally, FireFox has allowed me onto the site, after much warning of serious viral and malware attacks. Even IE9 was blocked.

Anyway, Happy Christmas to all of you behind the times as it is mid-morning of Boxing Day here in the future (where videogames cost their weight in Platinum). Busy looking to spend some bookstore vouchers from my sisters on an Aussie online bookstore - what fun.

It's been a good year folks, seeing the return of some old battlers, a heightening of action from our Core members and new blood coming on, and being just as interested and active.
Let's look forward to a grand year year ahead, once you've all shaken off your eggnog hangovers in time to get smashed on New Year's Eve.

EDIT: Firefox is back to blocking the site and IE9, as per usual doesn't allow posting of comments in the News Section. Finally had to install Chrome just to get back on.
*mutter...don't like Chrome...mutter*

I guess we'll have to continue using Chrome until this problem is resolved.

Well, I meant the site format was screwed up. It's back to normal on Firefox now.
By herodotus (SI Herodotus) on Dec 26, 2012

Yes, just tried FF again and it's back up (written using FF).
No wait, just tried to go back a page and once more it is blocked (written using GC).
Curiouser and curioser....

Its been getting back to normal on Firefox for the last couple hours only to go back all screwy 10 - 15 minutes later. Chrome doesn't have any problems at all.
By JonahFalcon (SI Elite) on Dec 26, 2012
JonahFalcon
OK, Firefox has gone too f'ing far. It actually gave me that virus warning WHEN I TRIED TO UPLOAD A VIDEO TO THE SITE. After, I was unable to upload it at all, so am uploading with Chrome.

Can you say "HEAVYHANDED"?

Luckily I only use Chrome, so I haven't had any problems as of late, nor any virus problems.

It looked like FF was finally OK just to see the warning again the very next click. Then later it works for a while and then gives the warning again, weird.
Opera seems to be fine.

FF is stuffed up, registering infections galore. You're right Jonah and SexyGeishaBaby - best leaving FF be, unless you want to get the "Red Page of Death".
Meanwhile I have to say I'm very disappointed with Chrome as it is, compared with IE9 for Heaven's sake (even though it won't allowing posting of comments on SI and never has). I'm also very cautious when it comes to Google these days - too much scandal and reveals of illegal (or at least unethical) activities of late.

Heh, I've been using FF all bleeding day, checking in every 15 or so minutes (working ;) ) and not once did I get a warning. I is confubulated

I haven't had problems on SI, but many sites are giving incredibly annoying security exceptions that you have to click a thousand times to dismiss, especially on sites using security certificates...

The response by BadwareBusters: "Stopbadware plays NO role in flagging sites, has no role in displaying malware warnings, and does not maintain in sort of blacklists or malware warnings. Stopbadware does not have any agreements with Firefox or any other browser. Firefox uses Google’s malware API.

Stopbadware serves as an independent resource to assist site in finding and cleaning up the source of a malware warning on their sites. Stopbadware also is available to conduct independent reviews of a site if the site has been flagged by Google or many of the other agencies that maintain blacklists.

Firefox provides a link to the Stopbadware site solely as a resource to assist site owners."

Here's my response: I'm abandoning Firefox.

Feel free to, your computer isn't it? ^^

I'm not convinced Firefox is to blame though, considering I'm not having any problems whatsoever for some reason.

I can't find any warnings anywhere anymore. I thought we will lose so much over this. Where I thought Christmas failed us, it came and saved the day! Christmas spirit is still alive on SI! And hopeful that no damage was done...

Hi there, Bone old boy, what great fun. My Chinese knock-off is close, but the battery lasts only a couple of days before re-charging.
Incidentally, did you know that Samsung, a South Korean Company posts an annual profit up to three times the GDP of the PDRK (or North Korea)?

Thx Roderick :D

great to know Hero, Now Samsung only needs to conquer the world with the help of google.

Cheers.
Back to the SI site problems, FireFox is still red-listing the site (as opposed to blacklisting, as it is not verifiable and...it's a red warning).

As for stating it is a false-positive, I find it curious that since this has happened my daily scan using SUPERAntiSpyware has jumped from around 9 errors to 50+ since this has started with, "Vadware" and "Adware" both being directly linked to SI.
By djole381 (SI Elite) on Dec 29, 2012

OK, this is getting ridiculous. Now Chrome is giving me a warning about malware.
By herodotus (SI Herodotus) on Dec 29, 2012
herodotus
Yeas, I hazarded a warning on Chrome to proceed here "at your own risk".
Strangle, no warning on IE9, yet SUPERAntiSpyware threw up 34 Threats after accessing the SI site (only 9 when I ran it prior to coming here.
One keeps cropping up: Adserver.strategy.informer.com

Guys, there were more hacks. The dev didn't found them all. It was rechecked and we found more similar codes implemented into our ad manager server. They were removed and it is confirmed that there are no more hacked in codes now. We've updated the software. Sorry for this guys. God damn hackers and God damn Christmas.

Yes, and we are clean now. Warning is removed. So should all be fine. Probably take a few days to update properly to everyone.

I also got blocked yesterday by a warning. Damn hackers! I sometimes ask myself what their damn reasons are for making other people's lives miserable by stealing or destroying their property.

This doesn't seem to be resolved yet, I'm still having issues.

I finally managed to remember my password so I can login with other browsers. I can't seem to be able to change my password, I've tried to many times already but my new password never works.
