UK digital sales rose as overall market sales declined in 2012

More 2012 sales data has started to trickle in as the Entertainment Retailers Association has announced that digital sales in the UK region rose to over £1.033 billion in 2012, with videogames comprising £552 million of the total.

£552 million is an increase of 7.7% over 2011's £512.9 million in digital videogame sales.

However, retail game sales are down 26.4%, and overall videogame sales, digital and physical combined, are down 17.4%. It's noteworthy that overall digital entertainment sales are down, with total digital sales down 12%.

Some think that the Olympics had a negative effect on British digital sales, and 2013 should see a rise in digital sales, as well as entertainment sales overall.

With the annually anticipated Steam Sales proving to be less than thrilling (worse discounts yet) and Publishers enforcing new price-gouging policies on the more popular new services (GreenManGaming.com) I'm hardly surprised.
No wonder piracy has become a more attractive alternative for many once legitimate, and ethical, gamers. Makes me sick to think on it, but it's the Publishers' own undoing.

Another gripe: Steam Green-lit games - way over-priced. It'll bite you in the bum Valve...believe me.

Completely agree hero, this year`s steam sales are awfull, there are lots of 25% and 50% discounts and their prices are beaten by many other sites, there`s barely any reason to even look at the steam sales anymore.

I can no longer blame pirates for the damages we get to the gaming community, that`s all on the big companies now, there are stupid prices and many games that are released in completely buggy or unplayable states and let`s not forget that steam doesn`t refund unless you threaten to sue them, case in point the war z,which is not a game,it is a scam and valve did not check it before putting it up so they could have been sued for a lot of cash.
