Star Trek Online executive producer Dan Stahl revealed that Season 8 for the licensed MMO will be coming around May 2013, while the game will also celebrate its three year anniversary with a new episode. Season 9 will appear in the second half of 2013.

According to Stahl, "2013 is going to be a very busy year for STO when it is said and done. Season 8, releasing in the first half of 2013, will focus on adding new missions and storyline to the game in the form of a new adventure zone, new episodes, and another big feature, which is yet to be revealed. We also have Season 9 scheduled to launch in the second-half of 2013. In between all of that will be additional updates, new ships, a few new features and perhaps a mid-year event before next year’s Winter Event."

When asked about the Winter Event, Stahl stated, "The Winter Event will be returning next December, and due to this year’s popularity, we are considering adding a companion event mid-year that will offer new challenges and new rewards, while providing a more sunny atmosphere."

As for the three year anniversary, it would include "new ships being released in the Dominion Lock Box later this month, the next Klingon-specific ship is a brand-new design that will be released in both a T3 and T5 version."

Still the best F2P model around with new content always arriving, and always free. I still have to complete Season 6 so I might have to get a shift on.
Damn this game, which scored so low on release, has done nothing but impress.

Never too late, and once you get started I defy you to stop playing freely beyond your first starship command:)
I think I've got some 400+ hours up already, which for me and MMO's is truly rare.

I got started, stopped after a couple missions ^^

Not cause the game is no good, but all those little MMO touches did turn me off a bit. Not to mention the bleh ground combat.

I'll try it again :)

Ground combat has improved greatly. I know the early frustrations and boredom up till about 12 months ago, but the visuals are now DX11-driven. Some of the vistas on the planets made me stop and stare, with Borg approaching and all. I like that you can play the game solo as much as you like and only if you feel like jumping in with others do you do so...and that can be quite a lot of fun and rewarding (great gear pick-ups and feeling that you're part of a real team). Being a member of a Fleet, or starting your own, can be quite fun as well.

Ground combat was one of the bigger reasons why I stopped playing as well, missions instructions in text format don't help either.
I know I'll go back to it eventually since it's the only Trek game of it's kind available so it's good to hear that at least the ground combat has been improved.

Ground combat is a lot more tactical now, particularly when taking on the Borg. Softly, softly.

Had a quick look in the c-store to get a feel for what it might cost to get me, say, a nice looking ship that clicks for me that I wouldn't be able to get otherwise....aaaaand....wow this stuff is expensive! Like 20-25 euros for a single ship! D:

I mean sure, F2P and all that, but that REALLY seems overpriced to me! I thought the guns in Blacklight were bad, but at least you could rent those easily.

Won't stop me from trying the game again, but I'm sure as hell not spending cash at those rates.
