Jay Wilson steps down from Diablo III stewardship

Diablo III game director Jay Wilson has announced that he's leaving the team to work on another, undisclosed project at Blizzard.

His tenure has been marked by controversy, lowlighted by Wilson's angry Facebook retort "F--- that loser" after Diablo II developer David Brevik made some criticisms about the game. (He later apologized.)

Diablo III's design also engendered controversy with its always-on stipulation as well as the real money auction house. Fans were also upset with the lack of a compelling end game content in the game as well.

Wilson wrote, "I know some of you feel we fell short of our promise to release the game "when it's ready." While we're not perfect, we try to make the best decisions we can with the information and knowledge we have at the time. That doesn't mean we always make the right decisions, but if we made a mistake then I feel we've made an exceptional effort to correct it."

Wilson noted that the 1.07 patch was "underway" as well.

What a wank. When you're wrong just admit it, otherwise you're no better then a CEO with a bad attitude, which I guess is basically what you are.
No support here.

So this is the guy we can blame for making D 3 such a dissapointment? Well i can`t say i wish anything good to him that`s for sure.

Be fair. I'm sure it was a team effort.

I enjoy the game, but honestly, more than 12 years in production for a game leaves no excuses for such mistakes.

I enjoyed D3 more than D2... but I also spent less time playing it. It seemed pretty short, characters had low customisability, and the lack of random maps made replaying on higher difficulty tedious. I was pretty much over it by the time they finally implemented the real money AH.

The real money AH was going to be oh so interesting to see how it panned out, but the game just felt like a non-event. I kinda wonder how many people who got the game early on are actually still playing it?

The community has complained about the lack of end-game content. I never really got to "end game" on Diablo 2 either, so I'm not sure what the difference is. PvP? idk, to me it seems that if you can win on the hardest difficulty then you have officially played it out.

Still, I got a free copy from having a WoW subscription, so I easily got my money's worth.

I stand by my opinion. The pacing was tight, and the plot gave you a sense of urgency that D2 was missing.

The plot may have only had twists in so far as they didn't explicitly say what was going to happen later, and the replayability may have been poor, and the game may have been too short, and the customisation options may have been dreadful... but it made me feel like my character's participation was vital, and a lot of the abilities felt fun to use... although I'll admit that I was aching for more abilities just to add some goddamn variety by the end of the 2nd pass thru Act 1.
