Gas Powered Games confirms major layoffs

Gas Powered Games is currently funding its next game, Wildman, on Kickstarter, and it seems the studio really needs the money, as founder Chris Taylor has confirmed earlier reports this evening that the developer laid off a "significant" portion of its staff, roughly 40 employees.

According to Taylor, Gas Powered Games "had to slim WAY down to conserve cash reserves."

This follows the shutdown of Age of Empires Online by Microsoft, ending downloadable content development and reducing maintenance to a skeleton crew. It's probable this drained Gas Powered Games' funds.

On the positive side, Wildman has raised $239K of its $1.1M goal so far.

Damn, I admire what Taylor's done so far and am sorry to see GPG fall on hard times while it's once affiliate Starock rumbles on with "Sins of a Dark Age". Hope they don't flounder too.
Besides, I'll volunteer my time willingly for "Sup Com 3" if it comes to that.
