Kalypso has announced that the Gold edition of Airline Tycoon 2 will be landing in retail on the 22nd February. The gold edition will feature the original game and the two downloadable content packs.

For the uninitiated, Airline Tycoon 2 allows the player to run an airline, crafting new planes with the in-game editor. Gamers will be able to choose between cargo, mass transportation flights or luxury jets, while testing their management skills as they must schedule flight plans and coordinate arrivals and departures - all while balancing the books.

Airline Tycoon 2 was originally released back in October 2011, and earned a 7.0/10 score from Strategy Informer's review.

Compared with the original "AT 2" is an awful game, and not at all popular with fans of the series. Might be worth a re-visit with the DLC's, but playing the demo alone, after having played the original, is enough to put you off.

People have complained about the constant load times.

The game is just plain awful to play, with very shonky spreadsheets loosely hidden beneath cartoon graphics. Nothing intuitive at all about the game, and it's description on the store page will leave you wondering if they were talking about the same game.
Seriously, I'd stick with the first.

They didn't fixed it so far, but i learned to expect this level of quality from Kalypso's published games.

Remember the Disciples 3 unfinished/unpolished games, tested by customers, because the devs could not be bothered and Kalypso didn't want to pay them to fix the game. remember the Legend of Pegasus fiasco, which led Steam to refunds from their own pocket (don't know how they will get those money back from Kalypso). Also, there are the Jagged Alliance: Back in Action and JA: Crossfire. Still broken in many respects, but hey who cares, right?!

Add to that the way they treat their customers on their forums when they start complaining about the bugs in game (bans, account suspension or closing/deleting the posts).

The only franchise from their catalogue that stands it's the one that they milk the most: Tropico. Fortunately, the Tropico devs act professional. But, they are old enough in the industry to know how to handle things.

Basically, i'd stay away of most of the Kalypso's catalogue (exception are the games developed by Haemimont Games - Tropico and Omerta).

Seems plenty are staying away from "Omerta" so far, with pre-sales barely even a blip on the radar for a February 1 launch date. I'm wary of this one as well, I am afraid as with only a 15 hour SP Campaign, I foresee plenty of DLC. Yes there's Sandbox mode, but what good is that in a non-free build setting? The combat also has me somewhat concerned at this stage, as so far it looks a little clunky.

You are right about being worried. Just look how hard Kalypso is milking their highest seller (Tropico). Kind of reminds me of the DLC Quest game....
