For those who love collecting achievements only. I prefer 'proper' rewards in terms of level-ups and new gear. Still, many gamers find it nice to get a pat on the back from a game every now and then (damn weird if you ask me, but still).

I like some achievements. They're extra goals in further completing a game and giving them more replay value.

I'd prefer a cash reward.

"Kill this", "kill that"..... boring.

I would prefer to have the achievements listed once you have played it through - then you can go around trying to play the game to complete achievements. Now they just disrupts the SP feel IMO.

Yea, I don't like that part either, it's an immersion killer.
You're doing your thing and all of a sudden this "YOU'RE JUST PLAYING A GAME" popup appears to completely ruin the feel.

Achievements are there to extend gameplay. Most games will give out a few without any real effort, but then have a few that you will never get accidentally. So, you finish the game, and you want more, and then you see that you've only done 40% of the achievements. Some of what is left seems pretty doable, so you do that. Some of the others sound kinda tricky, so you give that a shot too.

You often see an achievement for doing something a needlessly difficult way, that (almost) nobody would do without prompting. Stuff like "Complete the Trapmageddon level with 5 stars, without using any traps."

I do kind of like having achievements on steam - you can look at a game and see stats on what % of people have hit certain achis. It can be a shocker how many people have *not* done some achievements. Only 85% of Skyrim owners have absorbed a DragonSoul. Only 36% of Shogun2 owners have won 25 land battles. 93.5% of Fallout: Vegas owners completed the first quest, but only 55% have finished the second story quest. Only 84% of Portal2 owners have completed the Wake Up Call, only 79% have encountered GLaDOS, meaning 5%, 1 in 20, started playing it but walked away before doing much of anything. The Walking Dead's achis are all based on completing chapters. There's some pretty big differences between % on chapters in ep1, but it smooths out a reasonable amount after that. 90% have finished ep1, chapter1, 72% finished all of ep1. It's possible a lot of people bought it recently, but roughly 1 in 5 owners basically quit in the first episode.

Anyway - I just find it interesting.

Aggregates like that are always interesting, it's just like FoolWolf said, I wish there was an option to turn them "off" during gameplay and only see them at the end. Some games are OK with achievements popping up, some are even better for it but there are also games like Bioshock that rely heavily on immersion and achievements are ruining it badly.

Depends on how you play the game. I know many play simply to get all the Achievements, which to me is no way to play. I can't stand those on the Forums who grandstand about their so-called 'achievements". Go play a game of Poker or Two-Up and get some real rewards...or not.

Reminds of SplitReason's T-shirt "Achievement Unlocked: Went Outside". All too true, sadly.

For me, my approach of Dishonored were a bit shattered when I got a bunch of achievements and then found out that not only were the achievments attached to certain moves and actions in the game but also to the story and the end. Thus, being an inquisitive and curious old geezer - I started to replay certain parts of the game and felt pretty disatisfied with my regular approach. I would much have preferred to have had a play through that were just mine. No external input but my take. No holding hands, no tips, no trix, no give aways...

Ah well, that used to be how gamers were and then you hit the forums... or even magaznes ;)
