Publisher 2K Games has confirmed that the planned XCOM shooter from 2K Marin is still in the works, with it due in their next fiscal period which runs April 1st, 2013 to March 31st, 2014.

The tactical squad-based affair is in development for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC. It originally debuted in April 2010 as a class-based FPS, and before Firaxis revealed XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

It was due out in March last year but suddenly delayed with speculation that it had become a downloadable third-person shooter. It's unclear what XCOM has become now.

2K Games has seen a strong return to the PC franchise with Firaxis' highly lauded XCOM: Enemy Unknown which stuck with its turn-based strategy roots. The developer plans on releasing more downloadable content over time. Below is a dev diary for 2K Marin's XCOM which released back in September 2011. How relevent is it today?

I'm afraid I'm not, as being a Take 2 title it will be over-priced. Besides, I'm afraid "X-COM" for me will always be a strategy game, and anything else will drop to being a generic shooter.

LOL, I'm echoing Hero's statement here. And I was a bit disatisfied with the X-Com game recently released. A tactical squad shooter that already looks like a console dream and well - this seems like nothing new. Also, very very US-centric...
