Europe's premier professional gaming league the Electronic Sports League has gotten chummy with Paradox Interactive. They'll be hosting a €5,000 competition for The Showdown Effect February 20th.

It'll be a live studio event starting at 20:00 CET on Wednesday from the ESL TV Studio. The Showdown Effect is Paradox's 2.5D multiplayer platform shooter set in the 1980's.

Fifty gamers will be competing in the &euro'5,000 prize pool, with everything streamed live via ESL TV. The game will be available to play for those that show up for Showdown.

"The Showdown Effect is a blast, both literally and figuratively speaking, and brings back so many memories of sitting in front of the tv at night and watching tough guys like Arnold, Bruce and Sylvester pull off insane stuff. Now I'm able to do that myself in this 2,5D platform shooter from Paradox Interactive at the ESL TV Studio next Wednesday," said Turtle Entertainment's Sean Charles, Vice President of Communication and Marketing.

Paradox Interactive's Mattias Lilja added: "ESL is a key player on the e-sports arena of the world who continues to drive development and innovation, and we couldn't be more thrilled to partner up with them for The Showdown Effect and other upcoming projects."
