Bungie teases 'possible' PC future for Destiny

Halo creator Bungie has announced Destiny, their latest sci-fi first-person shooter under publishing agreement with Activision. It's officially out among the masses, but so is the news of no PC version.

However, Pete Parsons of Bungie says they "would absolutely love to be on PC," with Activision passing the buck of any platform talk to the studio. Will Bungie express their love of PC again?

Parsons left his remarks ambiguous. Bungie changed the face of the FPS when they gave us Halo: Combat Evolved for the original Xbox. It ditched a lot of established rules.

“We need to make sure that we’re prepared for the future. Both prepared for upcoming generations, certainly upcoming other platforms. Multiple platforms,” said Bungie's Pete Parsons. “The thing we’re focused on is creating that living universe, that place that you want to be on, and not have it be dependent on any specific platform or device.”

Activision's Eric Hirshberg added: “Until anything’s officially announced, from the first parties, obviously we can’t comment on any platforms that might be forthcoming. But what we can say is that we’re building Destiny to be wherever gamers are. And we want this to be one of the great video game franchises and entertainment franchise for the next decade.”

“I’d say we would absolutely love to be on PC,” Parsons said.

“If you go upstairs and talk to the people upstairs, we play on all platforms. So stay tuned.”

Destiny is a class-based FPS that spotlights the devastated remains of human civilization that has been reduced to a heavily armoured resistance community that's fighting to claim back former colonies, now in the hands of dirty alien forces that are in obvious violation of their work visas. It all takes place in a persistent online world with no subscriptions.

Activision have dubbed Destiny a "shared world shooter", which is vague PR gibberish.

Destiny releases on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Well, what they're probably saying is that they're focusing on 360/PS3, and will outsource PC development to another studio, like they did with Gearbox and Halo.

Actually, what if they actually chose Gearbox for Destiny?

Will it be a straight XBox port like "Aliens: CM" and "Ghost Recon Future Soldier", or will they actually put the effort into optimising, truly optimising it for PC? Remains to be seen, but I for one am sceptical (surprise, surprise).

Generally, when you outsource a port, it's not a straight port.

I hope that it will become a full PC game, not a game where they changed the images of xbox buttons to keyboard buttons, and where you can't even adjust AA, let alone use more than two sliders for GFX.
