Peter Moore: Gamers should appreciate the impact the Xbox consoles, and Xbox live has had on the industry

The Guardian has been running a five part interview with Peter Moore, with all parts being published last week. Now Moore has left a final message to the readers at the Guardian gaming blog which talks about how brilliant Microsoft is.

“I guess you have to work there to truly appreciate what a unique and special company Bill and Steve have built, and I think gamers need to fully appreciate the positive impact that the Xbox consoles, and in particular Xbox Live, have had on our industry. I worked with a team of people so special and so near and dear to my heart, that not a day goes by where I don't miss them in some way.” said Moore.

He then went on to add; “Microsoft changed the world of enterprise and communications with Windows, and when all is done and dusted, I know the same will be said of the world of entertainment because of Xbox. The company is too focused, the people too smart, to achieve anything less, and I feel incredibly proud to be a tiny part of that legacy.”

Bill Gates will certainly go into the history books as the man who placed the PC into the hands of the huddled masses, in the same way that Henry Ford brought the automobile to those same people. But I don't see the Xbox as being any more or less important than other past major console offerings by Atari, Nintendo, and Sony (i.e. 2600, SNES, and Playstation).

I do think that the online aspect initiated by the Xbox Live service is an important direction for console gaming to take.

I guess, although I certainly think Mr. Moore is a smart man, some of his comments just make me scratch my head.

Yes, we "appreciate" what the Xbox /360 has made for the gaming:
* Rental situatioins to play multiplayer games which used to be free.
* Red ring of death.
* Even more lousy ports to the PC
* Even worse by letting sloppy developers insist on using the damnable 360 controller to your PC games.
*Canabalizing the market between PC/360/other consoles by tending the infuriating "excluisive" titles...
*...that later will be published on PC anyway usually with a shitload of DRM and crappy controls, or in a few cases how the game was meant to be released to begin with.
*Dumned down games - sorry but IMHO some games are NOT for the console and unfortunately, the dumned down game gets released in the same sad state for PC.
* DRM hassle with moving bought online material. When Xbox dies and you tryu to move the harddrive content...
*Worst of all: Games for Windows! That alone deserves the big burn in hell notion!
