Some gamers have assumed that the upcoming open world title Watch Dogs, which is being released on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox 720, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Wii U, was running on the Assassin's Creed 3 engine.

However, this is not true, as UbiSoft's Sebastien Viard has buried that rumor, stating on Twitter that the game was running on a brand-new engine.

In the tweet, he stated, "Watch Dogs uses a brand new engine called Disrupt, developed specifically for the game at Ubisoft Montreal. It's not Assassin's Creed engine."

Watch Dogs is due to be released next year.

Saw the gameplay show - and it kinda reminded me of what Ubi and EA and Blizzard etc wants to do with gamers. Check them all the time. Have control over every last input into a game and environment. LOL must be that coffee again...
