Sony is gifting PlayStation Plus subscribers with a free digital copy of the original God of War in HD. The PS2 classic is offered up as tribute in celebration of God of War: Ascension's release in March.

The free game remains available providing a PS Plus subscription is active, however there are only two weeks to partake of this freebie starting today so grab it - "once it's gone, it's gone."

God of War: Ascension is an "immediate prequel" to the original God of War, which is a "riveting, visceral experience that tells the dark past of our hero Kratos."

"To celebrate the launch of God of War: Ascension next month, we have managed to secure God of War 1 HD for our PlayStation Plus members to download and keep for as long as you are a member, at no extra cost!"

God of War: Ascension releases on PS3 March 12th in the US, 13th in EU and 15th in the UK.
