Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is in development and will be released for the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U at the end of this year.

The packshot artwork that Ubisoft has released also confirms that Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag will have the rumoured pirate setting.

The PlayStation 3 version will have an exclusive hour of extra gameplay, the same deal offered for the PS3 versions of Assassin's Creed 3 and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

Strategy Informer recently attended a press event for Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, so we'll give you the full details on Monday March 4th when the embargo lifts at 5pm GMT.

I do hope they drop the 'IV' and keep it in the same vein as Brotherhood...

Assassin pirates? Hmm, I wonder how this will fit into their story/history.

I think that they are slowly but surely starting to run out of ideas... I haven't been keeping track of the game, but isn't it becoming a bit tedious now?

Indeed. This is a fresh turn for the series, as it presents us with a protagonist of dubious moral standing. As Shaun points out in ACII, despite being presented as the 'heroes' of AC; the Assassins are exactly that - Assassins. They kill people for an occupation... It will be nice to play a character different from the typical 'forced int the profession despite the moral misgivings' of Ezio and Connor.
