We're getting perilously close to condemning the lives of thousands as we're given the keys to many cities next week when the all-new SimCity releases for PC. Maxis would like to see us a little more educated.
Roads in SimCity are even more important now than ever before, given that all simulation aspects are tied to them, so Maxis' Ross Treyz explains their functions and how to upgrade them.
His almost immediate advice is not to break the bank on laying down expensive road networks when cheaper roads let you manage a cities expansion rate through density.
We no longer define residential, commercial or industrial density through zoning but by the type of road infrastructure we connect them to. Having dirt roads keeps development small, like trailer park small, while wide avenues with street cars will birth glass and steel titans that thrust skyward.
Keeping those roads cheap means letting Mayors get to grips with demands more easily. We can roll out upgrades neighbourhood by neighbourhood so as to keep up with all those demands for water, power, sewage treatment, garbage disposal, education, employment, health, police, fire and entertainment.
SimCity releases on PC March 5th in the US, 8th in EU.
