EA giving away a free game to SimCity owners

Maxis general manager Lucy Bradshaw has announced that gamers who purchased SimCity between launch and the 18th March will be getting a free game as compensation for the game's rocky launch.

According to Bradshaw in the post, "To get us back in your good graces, we’re going to offer you a free PC download game from the EA portfolio. On March 18, SimCity players who have activated their game will receive an email telling them how to redeem their free game.

I know that’s a little contrived – kind of like buying a present for a friend after you did something crummy. But we feel bad about what happened. We’re hoping you won’t stay mad and that we’ll be friends again when SimCity is running at 100 percent.

SimCity is a GREAT game and the people who made it are incredibly proud. Hang in there – we’ll be providing more updates throughout the weekend."

Bradshaw also revealed that EA had increased server capacity by 120% since launch.

Nice of them to offer a free game as an apology. I just hope EA learns from it's mistake and abandons this kind of DRM in the future. As for gamers that couldn't play SimCity on launch, they totally deserve what they got. We all saw this coming and yet many people couldn't resist the urge to buy the game at launch.

Is it A free game or any single game of your choosing for free? The second one would be more fair, or at least let people choose among a few titles.

I have a feeling that the free games EA's going to offer are the ones most people already own.

A free game, that should cost them a little bandwidth. They should give back money, real money, not bandwidth.
