Trendy has announced a sequel to their action-RPG tower defense game, Dungeon Defenders II. The sequel will be PC-only free to play, featuring both co-op gameplay and MOBA-style competitive PvP. To support the game, Trendy will use microtransactions to purchase heroes and items; 24 heroes will be available at launch.

The developer has not ruled out a console version, but the studio will be focusing on the PC version first. "Our current focus is to release Dungeon Defenders II on platforms that allow consistent updates and cross-platform play. Because of this, we are not planning to release Dungeon Defenders II on current generation consoles. If the next generation consoles fit this bill, we would love to see Dungeon Defenders II released there as well," states the FAQ.

As for the MOBA PvP, League of Legends inspired the group to make Dungeon Defenders II have its own version of the popular gameplay mode. According to Trendy, "When planning the sequel, we couldn’t drop the idea that a MOBA in the Dungeon Defenders universe would rock. "

Gamers heading to PAX East this weekend will get some hands-on time with a playable demo.

I hope that F2P doesn't mean a ton of grind, it was what killed the first game for me. It started out great but later difficulty levels just required a ton of grinding for the gear and to level all your chars.
