Thief 4 can be completed without killing any enemy

With the new Thief title confirmed, many players' attention has been surrounded on whether or not the game can be completed without making any kills.

It seems those wishes have been answered. As with the original games, Thief 4 doesn't require you to murder any of your foes.

In a recent blog post on the Eidos Montreal community page, staff member Adam Badke wrote the following:

"Players will have multiple ways to approach their objectives and each objective can be reached using Garrett’s various tools, by exploring and by playing with your environment.

Each path comes with a set of challenges, encounters and looting opportunities. Difficulty options allow the experience to be scaled for hardcore fans of the original series, but to also let newcomers have a lot of fun. And yes, you can complete the game without killing anybody – Garrett is a Master Thief, not a killing machine!"

Lay down your weapons and get tip-toeing, then.

A real stealth game, that's good news. Looking forward to this one, it's been ages since we've had a decent 'real' stealth game.

Sounds good. I am, however, worried about the "focus" skill they mentioned earlier... I don't need a stealth game that explicitly shows interactive objects, it should be intuitive. Hopefully focus can be switched off or just not be used, same as survival instinct in Tomb Raider.

This is great to hear, finally some good news about the game. A stealth game actually being a stealth game.

Interesting, but not my preferred method. I do like my bow and silent night arrows.

It's good to know. I'd also be interested to know about stealth kills.

The original Thief didn't require killing, but it sure required a fair amount of sapping goons with your blackjack. I might be wrong, but thinking about the first level, I'm sure you have a corridor early on where a guard just walked back and forth. I don't think you could sneak past.

Either way, I was a bit worried when they were talking about it being more action.

The one I played began with scaling a fortified wall, with rope-attached arrow and killing off two guardsmen without raising the alarm. Might have been "The Metal Age", but it's too long ago now.
