Edinburgh-based Wastelands Interactive have decided the world needs a little more classic fantasy 4X in its day-to-day, and so announce that Worlds of Magic is ready to accept pledges from backers on Kickstarter.
The studio is asking for £30k to get working on this "genuine spiritual successor" to classic fantasy 4X games, like MicroProse's Master of Magic. We're a Sorcerer Lord looking to end that War of Ascension ruckus.
Basically we'll be lording it over a bunch of simple folk who'll build our settlements while we commission mighty armies and take on hostile factions out in the world.
"Primary gameplay takes place on the world map. From there you can move your armies to explore new territory, defend key positions or attack your enemies. You can gain control of additional cities by conquering them or founding new ones yourself. You manage the cities under your control, building new buildings to improve them, dedicating your work force to one task or another, and creating new military units," explains the .
"Your armies can be made up of units you've trained, heroes and mercenaries you've hired, and even powerful summoned creatures. When two enemy armies collide gameplay is moved to the tactical battle map where combat is played out turn by turn. During gameplay you will also research new spells, manage your economy, and deal with diplomatic situations all in an attempt to gain supreme control of the universe."
When completed the game would be DRM free, with 10 preset Leaders to choose from unless you create your own, 6 factions to play, 80 units to train, 45 special units, 12 spell circles, 300 spells to master and 7 planes to conquer. There's plenty more to read up on over at the if you're so inclined.
The studio is almost 10% of the way to their goal already with 28 days left.
