Deus Ex creator's Disney project to have hardcore "up in arms"

Warren Spector has speculated (I couldn't resist) in a Forbes article that the "hardcore folks" of his previous creations won't see eye-to-eye with this new game.

While he expects some backlash he adds that he's actually "looking forward to getting into that discussion with them." A discussion? You mean a pelting right? Right?

"I think people are going to be very surprised when they hear what I'm working on," says Warren Spector in a Forbes article.

"I'm sure a lot of the hardcore folks are going to be up in arms and I'm really looking forward to getting into that discussion with them. I don't believe I'm compromising on my gameplay ideals at all."

He adds that "any artist who doesn't want his or her work in front of the largest audience possible is nuts." Like it or not Disney commands one of the largest global audiences.

Is the 'hardcore' breed becoming a relic of the past then, are we as relevant today? "At the risk of alienating all of the people who paid my mortgage all these years, they can't be," Spector says. Ouch.

"We are in a commercial art form, which means you have to focus on the mainstream if you are playing in that game space," he continued. While this shift may be occurring more often with the big players in the industry they are still "more relevant to independent developers."

avatar Well "Tron" rattled a few cages when it was released, so Disney does have the grit to do this. Good way of fooling unknowing parents into buying a good game...its' Disney, so it must safe.

avatar I love this guy, he managed to blow the sequel to the single most interesting game to come out in a decade, he BLEW it, total sellout lamewad, and he is justifying his partnership with Disney. No great loss to gaming. Good luck, glad you are out of the "hardcore" ...
