Bethesda announces horror game The Evil Within
Posted: 19.04.2013 15:16 by Comments: 22
Bethesda has unveiled a teaser trailer on IGN for its upcoming horror title The Evil Within.

The teaser seems to be the unholy love child of Silent Hill and Resident Evil, and it shouldn't be surprising since the game is being developed by developer Shinji Mikami who did Resident Evil and Resident Evil 4. Mikami is working at Bethesda's new Japanese studio, Tango Gameworks.

Check out the heaping helping of body horror and barbed wire in the teaser below. The Evil Within is due to be released in 2014 for PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and next-gen consoles.

This looks nothing like Fallout 4. Not interested.

Not a fan of Bethesda these days ("Fallout" did for me I'm afraid). However with the successful "Dishonered" showing a far better engine and gameplay I wouldn't rule this one out.
Could actually be good, IF it is not co-op based as with "Resident Evil" these days.

Holy shit does this look awesome.
This plus Outlast equals cronic lack of sleep.

Did you see Outlast? People who had played it said that the game is simply overwhelming when it comes to scares. Google it, really.

This game, on the other hand, does seem rather tense and morbid. I have faith that it will be scary, too.

The problem I have with the "horror" genre is that, nowadays, "horror" is synonymous with "pointless gore". Just take a look at films like Saw, which are classed as horror.... I wouldn't even class Slenderman as horror, so much as a "nervousness" game.

Maybe if this one is different, ill give it a shot.

It's Mikami, who did the GOOD Resident Evil games.

...and that's a definite point for it.
I know what you're talking about Jasca, and classically the Horror genre had true 'horror' storylines, along with a bit of claret and a few shot of topless chicks (there are a couple of well 'Scream Queens' today who will get their gear off in every flick). Horror with topless chicks - not horror.
"Saw" is more a Thriller, with horrific sequences, much like "Se7en".
"Jason" movies are you classic 'Slashers'.

True Horror films, for example, are still only being made in Japan, Thailand and South Korea (sometimes China). Anything that stands out of course is bought by Hollywood and re-made, dreadfully in most cases (excluding the first "The Ring"). "The Grudge" 1&2 were interesting exceptions too, where the original Japanese director was flown over to write and re-make them for Hollywood. "The Grudge 3" was a turd though, yet the Japanese series is brilliant, with quite a different storylines.

The first American Grudge remake was better than the Japanese version, IMO. (Doesn't hurt it was the same director for both, so I think he made some changes to improve on the original.)

Looks a lot like House on the Hounted hill movie!

I am very much in the mood for a new horror title. I support Bethesda, so I think that they should be given the chance to work on horror titles. Hope this goes well.

Fallout 3 did have some tense moments. It was spooky as hell sometimes.

I can't say that PC horror games have been something I enjoyed during my gaming life. Few have been actual horror games in the sense that they are scary. Most have had a few pop-up-crap-your-pants kinda effect - but once you have experienced a few of those you go more or less - how come they fitted these big monsters under the little shitty stairs I just descended and why didn't I see it walking down? These games tends to turn from shock effect to frustration effect quickly.

A few have been thrillers, games with a sense of horror on the border. Mostly adventure games that have been thrilling at least.

This one - seems like Resident Evil clone and more effect on the gruesome rather then actual horror.

But, it is a few minutes in a game pre-look...

I know this is a review of slender mostly but he talks a lot about what is actually horror and not the cheap scares we are given these days so please do try and watch it:

I love the part about Stalker, that was a scary game alright and one of the few scary games i do actually like to play and replay.

STALKER!
Fcuk yes. I love that thing. Now THAT is a horror game. It immerses you into its lore, gives you hi-end guns and armor that makes you feel like a badass, and then pops you into some God-forsaken genetic lab that absolutely destroys you.
Ahhh... the memories...

Good video... I didn't like Slenderman that much. Got a fright one or two times, after that... tedious, and boring.
