It seems Battlefield makers DICE are being given the extremely important role of handling the Star Wars license EA secured from Disney. They aim for DICE LA to have 60 staff by 2013's end.

The new Los Angeles studio has already incorporated Medal of Honor's Danger Close devs, as well as fresh faces. EA is mulling over sequels or brand new Star Wars stories.

This new Los Angeles studio comes after EA announced a 10% workforce reduction. DICE remarked it's "no secret that our main competitor is there," referring to Activision.

Specifically they were referencing Call of Duty titans Infinity Ward and Treyarch. It's likely they'll try to entice a few developers away from the Activision studios by dangling the chance to work on some Star Wars projects. "There is an extreme talent pool over that we want a part of," said DICE general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson.

After the mega success of Battlefield 3, DICE needed to expand said Troedsson. What better way to grow than by tackling the goliath that is the Star Wars franchise? EA is said to be unsure what they want to push for; sequels to know franchises or all-new pursuits? Will we get more Battlefront and Force Unleashed?

At the time of the licensing deal EA revealed that DICE, BioWare and Visceral all had Star Wars projects.
