After the disaster that was the collapse of 38 Studios, the Kingdoms of Amalur franchise was left gagged and bound in some obscure cabinet, but now Rhode Island is preparing to sell it off to those interested.
Apparently there are a number of people sniffing around the IP, which analyst Michael Pachter appraises to be worth around $20 million. Rhode Island was left $130m in debt.
Naturally the State of Rhode Island wants to recoup anything that they can to lessen the burden of 38 Studios' collapse. Studio executives are due in court over the fiasco.
"Defendants knew or should have known, but failed to inform the EDC Board, that 38 Studios was destined to fail according to 38 Studios’ own financial projections," reads the complaint by the legal team representing the state of Rhode Island. 17 counts of alleged misconduct are being filed against former Baseball player Curt Shilling and execs.
For those who are fans of the Kingdoms of Amalur IP there is a chance that it could be resurrected, and that hopefully whoever buys it will know what to do with it. Originally 38 Studios planned to establish the franchise with a singleplayer RPG, before investing in an MMO set years after. Who might snap it up?
