The newest Kickstarter campaign from Double Fine has achieved its funding goal in just five days as it clears that $725k goal for Massive Chalice. It's a fantasy tactical strategy with a Game of Thrones vibe.
It uses feudal fantasy in a turn-based manner as we found and guide a "mighty century-spanning dynasty," and it's inspired by the likes of Final Fantasy Tactics and X-COM.
Double Fine arguably kickstarted Kickstarter as a serious portal for studio developers to get some serious cash if their idea sounded crazy enough to be liked by backers with wedges of cash.
23 days remain on the Massive Chalice campaign trail, and around 20,000 backers have slapped their money on the table for it to become a thing. At the strategy level we oversee our kingdom, arrange marriages, meddle in some research and make some tough far-reaching choices.
At the tactical level we fight some "brutal turn-based battles to defend your kingdom using small squads of customizable heroes." Our heroes grow, age and die so we have to make difficult calls like when to retire our heroes so they can raise some kids, who in-turn grow up to be the future generation of warriors.
